The ULAM Pathology Core is a non-GLP research pathology core run by the Unit for Laboratory Animal Medicine (ULAM). Our mission is to provide anatomic and clinical pathology services for investigators as well as diagnostic pathology support for the veterinary care program. Clinical pathology services include animal hematology and clinical chemistry. Anatomic pathology services include histology and immunohistochemistry, animal necropsy, digital slide scanning and image analysis, and descriptive or quantitative pathology interpretation. Services are provided on a fee-for-service basis and our focus is entirely on non-clinical (animal), non-GLP research studies involving animal or de-identified (research only) human tissues. Diagnostic necropsy requests (for spontaneous conditions unrelated to research) are made through the ULAM Veterinary Care team.
Oversight is provided by board-certified veterinary pathologists with extensive experience in research pathology. Technical staff have certification and/or experience in histology or animal health related fields.
Quality assurance is maintained through the use of internal SOPs and participation in an externally administered quality assurance program.
Our main lab is located at NCRC with a satellite location on the Medical Campus. Courier services are available free of charge between the two labs.

Samples may be dropped off at either location by appointment only. A courier transports samples daily between the two locations.
Please submit your request at least 24 hours in advance, especially for hematology/chemistry services.
Two weeks’ notice is requested for Research Necropsy requests.
