The In Vivo Animal Core (IVAC) is a research pathology service core run by the Unit for Laboratory Animal Medicine (ULAM). IVAC provides necropsy/tissue collection, animal hematology and clinical chemistry, histology and immunohistochemistry slide preparation, digital slide scanning and quantitative analysis, and pathology interpretation on a fee-for-service basis for non-clinical (animal), non-GLP studies on campus.
Additionally, the IVAC Technical Services Team is available to assist with dosing, monitoring, blood collection, or other study services. Our staff includes individuals with extensive preclinical study experience, including board-certified veterinary pathologists. Pathologists are also available for study consultation. Our main lab is located at NCRC, but we have a convenient satellite location on the Medical Campus with courier services between the two labs.
To help us provide continued services, please remember to acknowledge the work of our core in your publications and presentations. We adhere to the Association of Biomolecular Resource Facilities policies on Authorship and Acknowledgment.

Samples may be dropped off at either location by appointment only. Sample courier service is available daily between the two locations. Please email at least 24 hours in advance for hematology/chemistry requests.
Two weeks’ notice is requested for Research Necropsy. Diagnostic necropsy requests (for spontaneous conditions unrelated to research) are made through the ULAM Veterinary Care Team.
