UMICH Proteomics & Peptide Synthesis Core

Overview of Services

The BRCF Proteomics & Peptide Synthesis Core provides research services in proteomics and protein analysis by mass spectrometry and other techniques as well as in custom peptide synthesis.

We are a full service Core and provide support from scientific consultation/experimental design and sample preparation all the way to data analysis and interpretation.  We accept a wide range of sample formats including complex biological and clinical research samples in unprocessed form (e.g. broad variety of tissues, cells, cell supernatants and conditioned media,  blood serum,  urine) as well as routine samples ( e.g. SDS-PAGE gel bands, eluates from affinity chromatography or IP, beads). Our new DIA services are a well priced  analysis option for samples submitted in replicates for quantitation.

Samples are being analyzed on state-of-the art instruments such as the Q-Exactive, Lumos Fusion and Exploris 4800 mass spectrometers (Thermo Scientific) coupled with UPLC systems (Waters). For Data Analysis we use: Scaffold software suite (Scaffold Q+S, Scaffold PTM and Scaffold DIA , Proteome Software), Mascot, (Matrix Science) and iPathway guide (Advaita Bioinformatics). Deliverables: Protein list and fold change calculations (excel), MS/ MS spectra and sequence coverage maps as needed (powerpoint), project report with results summary and methods used (word), Scaffold file, Results file from Pathway Analysis

 Our services:

  • Expert scientific consultation and experimental design
  • Qualitative Proteomics: protein identification, protein profiling and interactome analysis, protein sequence confirmation, localization of post-translational modifications (PTMs).
  • Quantitative Proteomics: Protein Expression Profiling using label-free quantitation, SILAC, TMT (labeled quantitation)  and Targeted Proteomics (parallel reaction monitoring, PRM), Data Independent Analysis (DIA, fast and sensitive differential quantitation for sample cohorts with at least 3 replicates).
  • Pathway Analysis (biological pathways, gene ontology terms, miRNAs and diseases for diferentially expressed proteins)
  • N-terminal protein sequencing (by Edman chemistry or MALDI-TOF/TOF (C and N terminal sequencing)
  • Quantitative  Amino Acid Analysis
  • Quality custom peptide synthesis at discounted prices
  • Finding the best analysis/synthesis options for your project scope and budget

Our service commitment is based on quality, reliability and customer satisfaction. We use proven and validated methods and workflows and provide meaningful data and results with statistical validation. Our pricing is competitive.

Turn around times: 2-4 weeks depending on project scope and samples.

As member of the Biomedical Research Core Facilities, the Proteomics & Peptide Synthesis Core is part of the Michigan Medicine's Office of Research

Sample submission: By appointment only, in lab  C568 or C570C MSRB II (Cfloor). Please email Dr. Remmer at hremmer@umich.edu for an appointment and sample preparation instructions.
